Yes I sing that tune a lot. Why? Because everything we do, feel, think, say, hear and more starts and ends with the brain. It is our master computer which is more complex than any of the latest technology out there!!! Yet, we forget about caring for it, perhaps because we can’t see it and it works in spite of how we treat our bodies. We do however feel the effects when it is not operating “right”.
In the past year or so, it seems that everyone is jumping on the “brain health” bandwagon. I have been at this for almost 6 years professionally, and studying the brain for the past 12. I have learned that there are some effective methods of supporting optimal brain function out there, and unfortunately many, many processes and gimmicks which, although may have some effect, are just trendy marketing buzz. One example is the liquid meal replacement ad that now says “it’s good for brain health”. While it is true nutritional supports that strengthen the body, also help the brain (being part of the body), its use in marketing suggests this is a remedy in keeping with trend. There is so much more to it than a one-size-fits-all approach!!!
Our brains are so very unique and wonderful. Don’t be fooled by those who promise all kinds of assistance unless they can explain HOW their method works. That is the test. Just saying “it’s neuroplasticity, or neuro-science” is not enough. If they cannot explain what is meant by that or how their offering actually supports the brain… run!!
I recently read an article from a business coach (not even involved in health and wellness) who gave a tip that entrepreneurs should exercise every morning saying “It’s good for the brain”. She made sure she inserted the word to be trendy. If one asked her how and why, she would have no answer. Perhaps she could answer, “Everything that is good for the body is good for the brain”, and that is a true statement. Exercise IS good for the brain, but if you ask her why she would not have an answer, because she is not an expert in the field of brain health. This is just one (very good) example of how we must be careful of what we read and who we follow… make sure they have knowledge of what they are promoting.
Again many phone apps are popping up that promise to help you sleep, or improve memory etc, another trendy marketing scheme. Do they work? Maybe for some… consider this. As I mentioned, your brain is unique. There are many factors at play as to why you may not be getting sleep. Purchasing these apps only taps one or two of these factors, because they are one-size-fits-all. They will help those who actually only have issues in that specific area, but this will not be the solution for most. The brain is far too complex to just have this very narrow approach to brain wellness. I teach executives, employees and individuals how to maximize their brain power for better performance, sleep, and stress relief (relaxation!) and explain how the brain works and how certain activities or thoughts affect it.
Brainwave Optimization® provides a non-invasive method of achieving these goals as well as assisting the brain to heal itself after traumas such as concussion and chronic stress.
