Today we pause to remember the great sacrifice of our men and women who defend our country, past and present. We will not forget. All reports indicate that the sale of poppies is much higher this year than others, and I am standing downtown at the parade to honour them, waving my Canadian flag. My great-nephew has recently joined the Sea Cadets and I am proudly watching him as he marches in his first parade!
Our veterans returning from overseas in active duty require many services which appear to be lacking in many respects. This week in the news I learned of a group of veterans who are taking up the cause of advocating for more and better services. These men and women are coming home with Post Traumatic Stress, Depression, Anger, Sleep issues, and have great difficulty re-adjusting to civilian life. We must do everything within our abilities to offer support and assistance. Suicide, domestic violence, substance abuse are a few of the major issues that can affect these brave men and women due to their trauma.
When we experience trauma, of any kind, the natural rhythm of brain patterns can be knocked out of sync, causing the brain to either become stuck in a state of imbalance, over-activation, or both. This can cause issues and behaviours that are difficult to overcome. Brainwave Optimization® is a process that allows the brain to relax, become unstuck from trauma, and find its own path to a more healthy state. The brain becomes more flexible and able to self-heal!
There have been studies conducted by the U.S. Department of Defense, and they have provided funding to Wake Forest Medical Center for independent studies of the effects of Brainwave Optimization® for veterans!
Here is the link to Wake Forest’s site which describes the studies completed and in the works! (HIRREM is the clinical term for Brainwave Optimization®)
